Learner Registration

NAERF provides a structured registration process for learners enrolled in alternate curricula within South Africa.

This applies to:

  • Learners attending independent centres

  • Homeschool learners following recognised international programmes

  • Students enrolled in Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel, Oxford, Montessori, Waldorf, GED, and other recognised alternate pathways

  • Learners enrolled in CAPS under the Department of Basic Education do not require NAERF registration.

School & Centre Registration

Centres offering alternate curricula must ensure responsible operation within South Africa’s regulatory environment.

This applies to:

  • Cambridge centres

  • GED providers

  • Montessori institutions

  • Waldorf schools

  • Pearson Edexcel centres

  • Oxford International centres

  • Online alternate education providers

International Curriculum Authorities Registration with NAERF

NAERF recognises that many international curriculum authorities operate in South Africa. To strengthen oversight, transparency, and accountability, these authorities are required to register with NAERF.

  • Recognised International Curriculum Authorities

  • Cambridge Assessment International Education

  • Pearson Edexcel

  • Oxford International

  • British Council (for UK curricula)

  • GED programmes

Registered authorities become part of NAERF’s national registry of recognised curriculum providers, ensuring legitimacy and accountability for schools, centres, parents, and learners.
